This is a two day course provides a physiotherapist with key skills in the assesement and treatment of persons with concussion, including consideration wholistic factors for optimal outcomes. 

Content will cover Pathophysiology, mechanisms, on field to office assessments, subsystem dysfunciton - cervical, vestibulo-ocular, physiological, psychological, social to recover. Concussive symptoms, assessment and management from acute to chronic.

Course participants must also hold current professional liability insurance and provide a certified copy at the time of registration. Failure to provide proof of registration and insurance will exclude you from the Course.

    Day one: Start 9am registration 8.30am onward

    • Lecture: Anatomy and physiology of concussion including epidemiology – imaging – diagnosis
    • Lecture: On field assessments – evaluation to diagnosis; HIA and other sporting assessments (e.g. CRT6) plus Acute (first 24/24) management protocols.
    • Experiences from the field – integration of concussion assessments for the acute sportsman
    • Practical – On field assessments.
    • Lecture Clinical Assessments beyond the field Assessment tools, for diagnosis and return to play / study protocols.
      • Evidence and Injury; patient and clinical scales /assessments with evidence for use.
    • Lecture/ Practical -  Clinical Skills session:
      • Clinical Assessments beyond the field Assessment tools for diagnosis and return to play / study protocols. Evidence and Injury; patient and clinical scales /assessments with evidence for use. –Buffalo TM / Bike; JPE; Balance and Function
      • Finish 4pm

    Day two 9am Start time

    • Practical skills: continue from day 1 VOMS; JPE; Balance and Function (highlight)
    • Lecture: Persistent Post-Concussion Symptoms – understanding the non-responder or poorly managed; Pathophysiology; Symptom Domains. Case study for clinical diagnosis and symptom alignment
    • Lecture/skills section: Treatment strategies and knowledge of outcomes from on-field through to PPCS
    • Case study for management of PPCS
    • Lecture/skills : Treatment strategies and knowledge of outcomes from on-field through to PPCS ‘
      Practical: Treatment strategies and options. Case based treatment development and application. Vestibular; Balance; Sensori-Motor; Physiological
    • Lecture: Optimising brain health and recovery through lifestyle management (e.g. SEEDS) & secondary symptom management
